pictures from the design festa* gotta love the things they wear.

i couldn’t resist the namecards. i mean who can resist pandas with twinkly eyes and pigs in briefs. aliceandthecat.com if you are interested. oh, and he’s not the artist but the agent. and italian too. but for a split second, when the flashes of cameras that suddenly appeared behind me went off, he broke into a j-worthy pose.

gotta love the things they wear part II. the cutie with the blonde hair and big white bow is a HE! he knew that i knew and was looking away, all uncomfortable, the whole time. how kawaii <3 love the CD hat too. and lots of bondage-animal sightings.

too cute. what more can i say!

one of my favourite installations. for the sake of art, she was stuck there in that awkward sitting position pretending to read a book under really dim orange light. and all i can think of is pins and needles. ouch.

another nice booth and installation with cool models thrown in for good measure: the ever photogenic cynthia,

and meriel and jason. i love their spontaneity! the picture would have been so blah without them.

it was a good weekend trip despite having been on an energy low for the past week. i met up with my ex-housemate, her hubby and sister too. if there’s one thing i’m blessed with, it is that i’m surrounded by really kind people. there are lots of things that i’m leaving unwritten, but i just want to say that i’m always counting my blessings.

and now, to break out of this inertia i have been feeling for so long.

it’s the golden week in japan. well, it’s actually only golden weekend + 2 golden days off this year. i’ve nowhere far or exotic to go to, so i went to go to my friendly neighbourhood castle, through an entrance i’ve never used before, and found a beautiful spot to take pictures. it’s definitely a place i’ll revisit in the near future with unwilling models in tow.

with regards to camera, tricks and lenses, i will admit that i have few. i have a d40 with a standard lens, 70-200 zoom lens and a relatively cheap 1.8 prime lens. i usually fit the camera with one lens and stick with it. sometimes i carry 2 out, but i don’t usually change them (read: kiasu but paiseh). the pictures in this post are all taken with the zoom lens, the sneakiest way to take pictures of people. i’m terribly uncomfortable with taking pictures of people without their knowledge, but i do, however, love this type of pictures the best (>.<)”

and unfortunately, i still have issues with carrying heavy cameras or lenses. once i told a friend i chose my camera because it’s light (of course d40 is a damn good camera, plus it’s light!). he gave me a look that this other guy gave me when i told him i also choose books because of a good cover design, binding that i like, and comfortable font size and spacing between lines. i don’t blame them for thinking that i’m frivolous, but i suppose different things matter to different people. of course i’m tempted by a better camera, lenses, flashes and gadgets, but not at this time when it’s still just an infrequent hobby, and especially not when i’m trying to remain inconspicuous.

so that’s where post-editing on the computer comes in. sometimes, i leave my photos as they are, sometimes, i tinker with them. recently, i’ve been adjusting the saturation, cropping and vignetting my photos for the effects you can see in the last two posts. i love editing photos on the computer, simply because i realise i don’t always see some things the first time round. and also because i’m usually too self conscious to stick around and tune my settings to perfection. i fiddle, take, and just go. i guess i do leave a lot of things to chance.

so far it works for me. but i know the time will come when i need to be more in control of things, and i’m working at it. but till that time…

i’ll continue to allow myself to be surprised.
