July 2008

three years ago, i was preparing myself for a new life in japan. i came here hoping for a new start, but carried with me a faint but tainted hope. as time would have it, everything finally burned down to ashes. and looking back, i’m glad things didn’t work out the way i wanted it to.

this job was only supposed to have lasted at most for three years but i will be stepping into my fourth after the summer vacation is over. i would have preferred to start with something new to mark this time-a new design, a new site. but i will just continue to build on what i have. it’s not time to evolve that way yet.

some of you might remember this image i did quite a while ago. i drew it on paper, coloured it with pencils and roughly slapped some textures on it the last time round. this time, i cleaned it up properly and made a finished artwork out of it. all because i plan to enter it into the 猫ちゃんイラストcontest. goals do not appeal to me much, but without it, other bright, twinkly lights (or hamster) can get a little too distracting

perhaps more than change, i think i need to start digging deeper. and only then will i find out if i’ve what it takes.

(over)printed and mailed! i’ve always loved prints-the weight, the texture, the smell of paper mmmm. someday, i’m gonna print my own moo-like cards and i’ve already found a japanese site that provides the same service. yay!

i started out with wanting to draw the 3 new tops i’ve got this summer to prolong the pleasure of my purchases. admittedly, i don’t have enough patience and stamina for sports, and to me, shopping is a sport indeed. but going into the shops for an hour or so and emerging with just a new piece or two each time is enough to make me happy.

this summer, i’ve decided to embark on a diet and my summer diet plan is all about losing unwanted thoughts. for the sake of a better, lighter me.

i took more than 100 pictures of this ball of endless energy. it’s impossible to get this little princess to stop bouncing around and pose for me, but for the same reason, the photos turned out satisfying. really want to do something more with the pics, but what can i do…
