made this for no. 17 instead. i think i will change the heart-shaped tree to 22: home instead. he is my ‘big tree’ after all
ermmm…can’t quite believe i said that. anyway, one of my students found her way to his workplace and told him she wanted him to marry me. now, how’s that for embarrassing.
this image was taken a couple of weeks back and the quality of this photo wasn’t all that good. a lot of noise was showing up so i had to limit the size of the image. i’m going to shoot RAW more from now, and of course, learn how to expose my photos better. i have so much more to learn but all is good.
with any luck, everything will be ok.

i haven’t been updating a lot because things got a little foggy the past few weeks. but the view wasn’t all that shabby-at least it was magical in a overly paranoid sort of way. and now that i am done being delusional, i can get on with my life.
the middle path beckons. hurray.

simplistic as it may sound, but i think if we can look for love and beauty in the things around us, things that we often take for granted, and be thankful for them, then everything might turn out to be quite alright.

attempting this topic in my usual illustration style would probably mean dressing up the little people i draw in tiger costumes. but that doesn’t sound too interesting, does it? i was about to skip this topic when i recalled having 2 packets of dinosaur origami lying around somewhere. i bought them a few months back and meant to bring them home for my nephews because the older one is attending origami classes and the middle one is all about dinosaurs (and pokemon and batman). but when i opened the packet up, i realised there was no way i was going to be able to translate all that instructions into english.

i had a bit fun making the dinos 2 weeks ago. it tickled me pink because this is so not a topic i’d usually attempt. i really wanted to bring them out for a photoshoot but i couldn’t muster up enough courage, so i did it at home instead. i think it turned out pretty ok : )

and since i will probably not have time to do a whole lot of editing, i am going to post the final versions here as well. and remember the kitties on the tree? scroll down and and have a peek!

one of things i fell in love with in japan is kitty mangas-monthly magazines devoted to 4-column (mostly) comic strips of kitties and their pet human. there are so many publications of the same type of magazine it’s hard to stop myself from buying them all. but luckily for me, i have a few favourite titles so with a little self control, i can pick out the one i want and escape from the bookshop. i already have a shelf full of them, which means a shelf full of kitty reference.

this is the lineart for item 2: cats (lots of cats, one will not do). i initially started designing for a wall paper but ended up with a tree instead. it’s been coloured digitally but i’ll keep that for a little later. hurray for kitties!

edit: and this is the coloured version.

so recently, i signed up for the scavenger project, and was sent a list of 24 items, which include an empty envelope and a blue balloon. the people at art house co-op are making a book, and being the impulsive girl i am, i hopped onto the bandwagon presently 356 people full. apparently, every participant is guaranteed to get at least one photo published-a great incentive, but i seriously wonder how big each photo is going to turn out, given the number of participants.

but i needed a creative push and this is it. it has been fun, though at this stage, i’m not sure if i have enough time. some of the topics are not familiar terrain, so i can’t do everything in my usual style (not a bad thing though). i’ve got some ideas down on paper. now, it just about getting them done.
some of my friends have asked me where i get my ideas for my illustrations from. truthfully, i don’t see myself as being particularly creative. i am not good at pulling ideas out of the air, but i do enjoy mix and matching. a lot of times, i see something that interests me from blogs, books, or simply things around me and i think to myself, hey i want to add that into my illustration/ try out that style/ take a picture like that. to put it simply, it is monkey see, monkey do, except most of the time, monkey daydreams and watches tv instead.
i’m going to keep a journal of my progress, the sources i draw inspiration from and a sneak peek of the finished work. not a lot i’m afraid, but i prefer to wait till i’ve sent out my package before posting them here. in that way, i’d have made all the final touches and hopefully be satisfied with them.
comments for the stuffs i make for this project will be very much appreciated. お願いします!
